New Focus

New Focus, a compassionate ministry of Here’s Life Inner CityWhat do you do? You’re part of your church’s benevolence committee, and you truly desire to help people in need. But you notice that just offering financial assistance doesn’t seem to provide any long-term solutions. The same people with the same needs keep returning.

      Perhaps you’ve had this experience!

Jenny Forner, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, faced that challenge. First she developed a budgeting class for recipients, using church members as mentors.

But people with emergency needs brought with them many other pressing issues, which often overwhelmed the volunteer mentors. Churches were ill-equipped to respond adequately to the significant problems of both generational and situational poverty.

Unless these broader issues were addressed, finances would remain unstable.

From Jenny’s years of experience, New Focus National was launched in 1994 to meet these needs.

And now, New Focus has become a valuable resource of Here’s Life Inner City.

The goal of New Focus is to help people out of poverty through financial skill training and a wholistic, biblically-based approach to life change. Participants are invited into a multi-week financial and personal-skills management course that leads to long-term connected relationships within the context of the church.
